Status Report - June 2019

The City of Adair continues to develop plans to build a fiber optic network in Adair and partner with Casey Mutual Telephone to provide services. Over the past few months, the following developments have occurred:

The City of Adair was awarded a State of Iowa Broadband Grant for $138,900 to offset 15% of the cost of building the fiber network. This will reduce the amount of money the City will need to borrow to construct the network.
Oak Hill Consulting has been hired to design the fiber network and prepare bidding documents. The goal is to accept construction bids later this summer so work can begin on the network later this year.
Casey Mutual Telephone and the City have agreed to key principles of a partnership framework whereby the City will own the network and Casey Mutual will lease the network in order to provide internet, cable TV, and telephone services.

Broadband Referendum

It's Unanimous!

“Shall the City of Adair, in the Counties of Adair and Guthrie, State of Iowa, be authorized to establish a Municipally-Owned Utility providing cable communications and television system, including video, voice, telephone, data and all other forms of telecommunications and cable communications?”

On March 7, voters unanimously approved a referendum to establish a municipal telecommunications utility!

Community leaders are working with Casey Mutual Telephone Cooperative to explore the possibilities of a fiber-to-the-home network in Adair. Keep checking back for more information on this exciting project!
